S420MC material, designated as 1.0980 under the European standard EN 10149-2, is part of the family of hot-rolled high-yield strength steels for cold forming. The "S" denotes structural steel, "420" indicates a minimum yield strength of 420 MPa, and "MC" specifies thermomechanical rolling for enhanced cold formability. This grade is optimized for applications where bending, pressing, or deep drawing is required without sacrificing strength, distinguishing it from normalized grades like S420N (EN 10025-3).
EN 10149-2 S420MC is produced through controlled thermomechanical rolling, which combines hot rolling with accelerated cooling to achieve a fine-grain microstructure, improving ductility and reducing the need for heat treatment. Gangsteel produces S420MC plates in thicknesses up to 20 mm, with precise microalloying for optimal grain refinement and performance.
The chemical composition of S420MC is tightly controlled to ensure low carbon equivalent for weldability and microalloying for strength (ladle analysis, max % unless noted).
