SUS309S is a heat-resisting austenitic stainless steel designed for continuous high-temperature service. With significantly higher chromium and nickel than standard 304/316 grades, it forms a stable, protective chromium oxide scale that resists oxidation, carburization, and sulfidation in oxidizing atmospheres up to 1900°F (1038°C) non-cyclic, or ~1850°F (1010°C) cyclic. The low carbon content enhances weldability and resistance to intergranular corrosion after exposure to sensitization temperatures.
Non-magnetic in the annealed state, SUS309S provides good creep strength, thermal fatigue resistance, and moderate corrosion resistance in mildly aggressive environments.
