SUS321 is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel stabilized with titanium to bind carbon and prevent chromium carbide precipitation at grain boundaries during welding or service in the sensitization range (425–815°C). This stabilization provides superior intergranular corrosion (IGC) resistance compared to unstabilized grades like SUS304, while maintaining excellent general corrosion resistance in atmospheric, mild chemical, and organic environments.
Non-magnetic in the annealed state, SUS321 offers good toughness at cryogenic temperatures, oxidation resistance up to ~870°C intermittent, and moderate strength at elevated temperatures.
