Difference between 430 BA and 2B Finish

Gangsteel, as an authorized Yongjin 430 agent and direct exporter of Yongjin Stainless Steel (Yongjin Mill) — one of China’s top stainless steel producers from Zhejiang/Guangdong — supplies premium 430 stainless steel in both BA and 2B finishes in full compliance with all major international standards. We can produce material to any of the following specifications to meet your exact requirements:

  • JIS G4305 SUS430(Japan)
  • ASTM A240 Type 430(USA)
  • EN 10088-2 1.4016 / X6Cr17(Europe)
  • DIN EN 1.4016(Germany)
  • GB/T 3280 10Cr17 / 1Cr17(China)
  • BS 1449 430S17(United Kingdom)
  • ISO 4954 X6Cr17(International)

When buyers search for 430 stainless steel, AISI 430 stainless steel, SUS 430 stainless steel, Grade 430 stainless steel, SS 430 stainless steel, 430 ferritic stainless steel, cold rolled 430 stainless steel, 430 stainless steel coil, 430 stainless steel sheet, 430 stainless steel plate, or a reliable 430 stainless steel supplier, 430 stainless steel exporter, and 430 stainless steel factory, they often ask about the difference between 430 BA and 2B finishes. As a direct Yongjin 430 agent, Gangsteel offers genuine China Yongjin 430 BA/2B with the brand premium that helps you choose the right finish for your project.

What Is 430 2B Finish?

2B is the most common industrial finish for 430 stainless steel. The production process is: Cold rolling → Annealing → Pickling → Light skin-pass rolling (temper rolling).

This creates a smooth, slightly reflective matte silver-gray surface with typical roughness Ra 0.3–0.5 μm and gloss around 20–40%. The 2B finish is uniform, hides minor scratches and fingerprints well, and is easy to clean. It is the standard “industrial” look used when appearance is secondary to function and cost.

For the same high-quality material, please see our a240 Type_430 stainless steel sheet.

What Is 430 BA Finish?

BA stands for Bright Annealed. The process is: Cold rolling → Bright annealing in a controlled hydrogen-nitrogen atmosphere (no oxygen, no pickling needed) → Light skin-pass if required.

This produces a highly reflective, mirror-like surface with Ra <0.1 μm and gloss levels of 70–90%. The BA finish looks premium and shiny straight from the mill without additional polishing, giving appliances and visible parts a high-end appearance.

For European or DIN-standard projects, please see our EN10088 2 X6Cr17 stainless steel sheet and DIN 1.4016 stainless steel sheet.

When to Choose 430 BA vs 430 2B

Choose 430 BA finishwhen:

  • The surface is highly visible (appliance doors, control panels, decorative trim)
  • You want a premium mirror look without extra polishing cost
  • Maximum reflectivity or light reflection is needed

Choose 430 2B finishwhen:

  • Cost is the main concern
  • The surface will be painted, laminated, or hidden
  • Fingerprint and scratch hiding is important
  • Industrial or structural use

For Japanese-standard requirements, please see our JIS G4305 SUS 430 stainless steel sheet.

FAQ

Which finish is better — 430 BA or 2B?It depends on visibility and budget. BA for premium visible surfaces; 2B for cost-sensitive or hidden use.

Does BA or 2B affect corrosion resistance? No — both have identical corrosion resistance because the base metal is the same.

Is BA more expensive than 2B?Yes, usually 8–15% higher due to the specialized bright annealing process.

Can I polish 2B to look like BA?Yes, but it adds extra cost and processing time. BA is already mirror-like from the mill.

Which finish is easier to clean? Both are excellent; 2B hides dirt better, while BA shows it more but wipes cleaner.
