Is 430 Stainless Steel Magnetic? — Clear Answer and Explanation

430 stainless steel is strongly magneticat room temperature and remains magnetic even after cold working or welding (unlike austenitic grades).

This is because 430 belongs to the ferritic stainless steel family. Its crystal structure is body-centered cubic (BCC), which is inherently magnetic. The high chromium content (16–18%) stabilizes the ferritic phase across all temperatures, so there is no phase transformation to non-magnetic austenite.
