430 Stainless Steel Mechanical Properties

Gangsteel supplies 430 stainless steel with consistent mechanical properties that fully comply with the leading international standards. We produce material to any of the following specifications:

  • JIS G4305 SUS430(Japan)
  • ASTM A240 Type 430(USA)
  • EN 10088-2 1.4016 / X6Cr17(Europe)
  • DIN EN 1.4016(Germany)
  • GB/T 3280 10Cr17 / 1Cr17(China)

The mechanical properties listed below are for the annealed condition, which is the standard delivery state for cold-rolled 430 stainless steel sheet and coil. Values are minimum requirements unless noted as typical.

Mechanical Properties Table (Annealed Condition)

Property

Minimum Value

Typical Range

Yield Strength (0.2% offset)

≥ 205 MPa

220 – 280 MPa

Tensile Strength

≥ 450 MPa

450 – 600 MPa

Elongation (50 mm gauge)

≥ 22%

25 – 35%

Hardness (Rockwell B)

≤ 89 HRB

80 – 88 HRB

Hardness (Brinell)

≤ 183 HB

150 – 180 HB

Modulus of Elasticity

200 GPa

Density

7.70 g/cm³

These properties make 430 stainless steel highly formable for deep drawing, bending, and stamping while providing sufficient strength for structural and decorative uses.

Additional Notes

  • At elevated temperatures: 430 retains good strength up to 815 °C (intermittent service) and 760 °C (continuous service) with excellent oxidation resistance.
  • Low-temperature toughness: Remains ductile down to cryogenic levels, unlike some martensitic grades.
  • Work-hardening: Moderate; cold working increases strength but reduces ductility.
