430 Stainless Steel Tensile Strength

Gangsteel produces 430 stainless steel with consistent tensile strength that fully complies with the leading international standards. We can manufacture to any of the following major specifications to meet your exact project requirements:

  • JIS G4305 SUS430(Japan)
  • ASTM A240 Type 430(USA)
  • EN 10088-2 1.4016 / X6Cr17(Europe)
  • DIN EN 1.4016(Germany)
  • GB/T 3280 10Cr17 / 1Cr17(China)
  • BS 1449 430S17(United Kingdom)
  • ISO 4954 X6Cr17(International)

Tensile Strength of 430 Stainless Steel

The tensile strength of 430 stainless steel (also known as AISI 430 or UNS S43000) in the standard annealed condition (the normal delivery state for cold-rolled sheet and coil) is:

Minimum Tensile Strength: ≥ 450 MPaTypical Range: 450 – 600 MPa

This value applies across all major standards (ASTM A240, JIS G4305, EN 10088-2, GB/T 3280, etc.). The tensile strength is measured according to ASTM E8 / ISO 6892-1 using standard test specimens.

Key Notes on Tensile Strength

  • The value above is for the annealed condition. Cold working or temper rolling can increase tensile strength significantly (up to 700–900 MPa in some tempers), but elongation will decrease.
  • At elevated temperatures (up to 815 °C intermittent service), 430 retains useful strength while offering excellent oxidation resistance.
  • Compared with austenitic grades like 304 (minimum 515 MPa), 430 has slightly lower tensile strength but much better thermal conductivity and price stability due to its nickel-free composition.
