430 Stainless Steel Yield Strength

Gangsteel supplies 430 stainless steel with consistent yield strength that fully complies with the leading international standards. We can manufacture to any of the following major specifications to meet your exact project requirements:

  • JIS G4305 SUS430(Japan)
  • ASTM A240 Type 430(USA)
  • EN 10088-2 1.4016 / X6Cr17(Europe)
  • DIN EN 1.4016(Germany)
  • GB/T 3280 10Cr17 / 1Cr17(China)
  • BS 1449 430S17(United Kingdom)
  • ISO 4954 X6Cr17(International)

Yield Strength of 430 Stainless Steel

The yield strength of 430 stainless steel (AISI 430 or UNS S43000) in the standard annealed condition (the normal delivery state for cold-rolled sheet and coil) is:

Minimum Yield Strength (0.2% offset): ≥ 205 MPaTypical Range: 220 – 280 MPa

This value is the same across all major standards (ASTM A240, JIS G4305, EN 10088-2, GB/T 3280, etc.) and is measured according to ASTM E8 / ISO 6892-1 using standard test specimens. The 0.2% offset method is the conventional way to determine yield strength for stainless steels that do not exhibit a clear yield point.

Key Notes on Yield Strength

  • The yield strength of 430 is moderate, making it suitable for most forming operations (deep drawing, bending, stamping) without excessive springback.
  • Cold working (e.g., temper rolling or skin-passing) can increase yield strength to 300–400 MPa or higher, depending on the degree of reduction.
  • At elevated temperatures (up to 815 °C intermittent service), 430 retains useful yield strength while offering excellent oxidation resistance.
  • Compared to austenitic grades like 304 (minimum 205 MPa yield, but typically higher in practice), 430 has similar minimum yield but much better thermal conductivity and lower cost due to no nickel.
