S355M is a thermomechanically rolled (TMCP) weldable fine-grain structural steel specified in EN 10025-4:2004 (current version 2019).

S355M is widely used when the service temperature is above –20 °C:
When the temperature drops below –20 °C, the low-temperature version S355ML is required.
Q1: What is the typical CEV of your S355M plates?
A: Our actual CEV is 0.34–0.37, significantly lower than the maximum 0.39 allowed by the standard. This gives outstanding weldability – no preheating required up to 80 mm thickness in most conditions.
Q2: Why is the carbon content so low in S355M?
A: Low carbon (0.09–0.12 % actual) is essential for the TMCP process and excellent HAZ toughness after welding. It also contributes to the very low CEV and high impact values.
Q3: How do you control P and S levels?
A: We use vacuum degassing (VD) and strict raw material selection to keep P+S ≤0.030 % (often ≤0.025 %). This ensures clean steel with minimal inclusions and maximum toughness.
Q4: Can you supply S355M with even tighter chemistry?
A: Yes – for special offshore or pressure vessel applications, we can offer P+S ≤0.020 %, C ≤0.10 %, or other restrictions by agreement.
Q5: Do you provide chemical composition certificates?
A: Every plate is supplied with EN 10204-3.1 or 3.2 certificate showing complete ladle and product analysis for the specific heat number.
Q6: What is the difference between S355M and S355ML chemistry?
A: The chemical composition is exactly the same. The only difference is the impact test temperature (S355M –20 °C, S355ML –50 °C).
