What is AISI 430 Stainless Steel?

AISI 430 stainless steel, also known as Type 430 or simply 430 stainless steel, is one of the most popular, cost-effective, and widely used grades of stainless steel in the world today.

The designation “AISI 430” comes from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) numbering system. It belongs to the 400 series and is classified as a straight-chromium ferritic stainless steel with 16–18% chromium and very little or no nickel.

At Gangsteel, we are a trusted direct exporter and authorized Yongjin 430 agent for genuine material produced by Yongjin Stainless Steel (Yongjin Mill) — one of China’s leading stainless steel producers. Our customers choose AISI 430 because it delivers reliable performance, excellent formability, strong magnetism, superior thermal conductivity, and significant cost savings compared to nickel-bearing grades like 304 or 316.

Key Characteristics of AISI 430 Stainless Steel

  • Family: Ferritic (body-centered cubic structure)
  • Main alloying element: Chromium (16.00–18.00%)
  • Nickel content: ≤ 0.75% (typically < 0.50% or trace in real production)
  • Structure: Fully ferritic — remains strongly magnetic in all conditions
  • Thermal conductivity: ≈ 26 W/m·K (≈60% higher than 304)
  • Thermal expansion: 10.5 × 10⁻⁶/°C (≈35% lower than 304)
  • Corrosion resistance: Good in mild atmospheres, fresh water, and mild acids; limited in chlorides
  • Formability: Excellent — easy deep drawing and stamping
  • Cost: 30–50% lower than 304 due to no nickel

Most Common Real-World Applications of AISI 430 Stainless Steel

AISI 430 is chosen for high-volume production where cost, magnetism, and thermal performance matter most:

  • Household appliances— refrigerator doors, washing machine panels, range hoods, microwave interiors
  • Kitchenware— sinks, countertops, pots, pans, baking trays, utensils
  • Architectural & decorative— elevator interiors, wall cladding, column covers, decorative trim
  • Automotive— interior trim, exhaust system parts, wheel covers
  • Furniture & hardware— cabinet fronts, handles, table frames
  • Electrical— enclosures, brackets, heat shields
  • Food equipment— mild-contact surfaces (dry foods, dairy, non-acidic processing)

Why Customers Worldwide Choose AISI 430 from Gangsteel

  • Low or no nickel= stable pricing and 30–50% cost savings versus 304
  • Strong magnetism= perfect for magnetic knife holders and automated assembly lines
  • High thermal conductivity= faster, more even heating in cooking applications
  • Low thermal expansion= less warping during temperature changes
  • Beautiful surface finishes= 2B, BA, NO.4, HL — all available directly from the mill
  • Reliable quality= consistent chemistry and uniform surface from Yongjin Mill
