Material S275M is a thermomechanically rolled (TMCP) weldable fine grain structural steel specified in EN 10025-4:2004 (current version 2019).

The designation “S275M” means:

• S= structural steel
• 275= minimum yield strength 275 MPa (transverse, thickness ≤ 16 mm)
• M= thermomechanical rolling (TMCP delivery condition – controlled hot rolling + accelerated cooling, no separate normalizing)

The fine grain structure is achieved through controlled microalloying (Nb, V, Ti) and the TMCP process, resulting in ASTM grain size 8–11. This is what gives S275M its excellent combination of high strength, superior weldability, and good low-temperature toughness (≥40 J at –20 °C).
