EN 10025 S355ML is a thermomechanically rolled (TMCP) weldable fine-grain structural steel specified in EN 10025-4:2004 (current version 2019).
The "M" in S355ML specifically means thermomechanical rolling – a controlled hot-rolling process followed by accelerated cooling that produces a very fine-grained microstructure without separate heat treatment. This gives S355ML superior combination of strength, toughness, and weldability compared to normalized grades.
Key advantages of the TMCP process in S355ML:
S355ML is the thermomechanical version of S355NL and the low-temperature version of S355M. It is the most demanded grade when both high strength and –50 °C impact toughness are required.

Q1: S355ML vs S355M difference?A: Only impact temperature. S355ML = –50 °C (≥27 J), S355M = –20 °C (≥40 J). Everything else identical. Use S355ML when service temp < –20 °C.
Q2: Preheating required for welding?A: No preheat needed up to 80 mm (CEV ≤ 0.39). >80 mm: 75–100 °C max.
Q3: Z35 availability?A: Yes – very large stock of S355ML + Z35 (≥35 % reduction of area), ready for immediate delivery.
Q4: Density and hardness?A: Density 7.85 g/cm³, hardness 140–170 HBW.
