S355ML Equivalent ASTM A633Gr.C EN 10025-4 Supplier

S355ML Equivalent ASTM A633 Gr.C | EN 10025-4 Steel Plate

S355ML Equivalent ASTM A633 Grade C (Overview)

S355ML is a thermomechanically rolled, low-temperature steel grade specified in EN 10025-4. It offers high strength, excellent toughness at low temperatures, and good weldability due to its low carbon equivalent.
In the American ASTM system, the closest equivalent grade is ASTM A633 Grade C, a normalized high-strength steel used for welded structures, offshore platforms, and heavy machinery.

Although S355ML and A633 Gr.C are not identical, engineers commonly consider them comparable in terms of strength level, impact toughness, plate thickness availability, and mechanical behavior.

Summary:
Both grades use micro-alloying (Nb, V, Ti) and controlled rolling to achieve strength.
S355ML has slightly lower P+S limits and slightly lower carbon content, offering better weldability.

Summary:

  • S355ML performs better at lower temperatures (–50°C).
  • A633 Gr.C has similar strength, slightly lower impact toughness.

Application Comparison

Both S355ML and ASTM A633 Grade C are widely used in structural and low-temperature environments:

Typical Applications

  • Offshore platforms & structures
  • Oil & gas equipment
  • Shipbuilding and marine components
  • Heavy machinery and cranes
  • Welded structural beams
  • Low-temperature storage tanks

Are S355ML and ASTM A633 Gr.C Fully Interchangeable?

Not 100%.
However, they are commonly treated as practical equivalents when:

  • The engineering specification requires ~350 MPa yield strength
  • Low-temperature toughness is required (–40°C to –50°C)
  • Weldability and micro-alloyed composition are important
  • Plate thickness is within the standard range

For critical applications, material substitution should be approved by the project engineer.
