430 vs 410 Cold Rolled Stainless Steel Sheet

Gangsteel produces both 430 and 410 cold rolled stainless steel sheet in full compliance with the leading international standards. We can manufacture to any of the following major specifications to meet your exact project requirements:

  • JIS G4305 SUS430 / SUS410(Japan)
  • ASTM A240 Type 430 / Type 410(USA)
  • EN 10088-2 1.4016 / 1.4006(Europe)
  • DIN EN 1.4016 / 1.4006(Germany)
  • GB/T 3280 10Cr17 / 1Cr13(China)

Whether you need 430, 410, or both for side-by-side comparison, Gangsteel delivers consistent quality, full traceability, and competitive pricing from our advanced Chinese production facilities.

430 vs 410 Cold Rolled Stainless Steel Sheet: Quick Overview

Both 430 and 410 are magnetic stainless steels in the 400 series, but they belong to different families:

  • 430is a ferritic grade: nickel-free, excellent thermal conductivity, good formability, and moderate corrosion resistance in mild environments.
  • 410is a martensitic grade: higher carbon content, can be heat-treated for higher hardness and strength, but lower corrosion resistance and more difficult to form/weld.

The 2B or BA finish is most common for both, making them ideal for stamping, bending, and fabrication. The choice usually depends on whether you need corrosion resistance and formability (430) or hardness and wear resistance (410).

Corrosion Resistance

  • 430: Better general atmospheric and fresh-water corrosion resistance due to higher chromium.
  • 410: Fair corrosion resistance (similar to 410), but lower than 430 in most environments. It performs better in mildly oxidizing conditions when hardened.

Neither grade is suitable for chloride or marine environments (use 316 instead).

Thermal Properties

430 has a clear advantage:

  • Thermal conductivity: ≈26 W/m·K (430) vs ≈25 W/m·K (410)
  • Thermal expansion: 10.5 × 10⁻⁶/°C(both similar)

430 is preferred for heat exchangers and parts that must stay dimensionally stable when heated.

Weldability and Fabrication

  • 430: Good weldability but may require post-weld annealing. Excellent formability.
  • 410: More difficult to weld due to high carbon; requires preheating and post-weld heat treatment to avoid cracking. Harder to form in annealed condition.

Cost and Availability

430 is typically 15–30% cheaper than 410 and more readily available in cold-rolled sheet form. Both are supplied by Gangsteel with short lead times.

Applications: When to Choose Each

Choose 430 when you need:

  • Better corrosion resistance
  • Superior formability
  • High thermal conductivity
  • Lower cost (appliances, trim, cladding)

Choose 410 when you need:

  • Higher hardness and wear resistance (after heat treatment)
  • Strength in cutting tools, valves, or fasteners
