What Is Grade 430 Cold Rolled Stainless Steel Sheet?

Grade 430 cold rolled stainless steel sheet is a reliable nickel-free ferritic grade (16–18% Cr) that strikes an ideal balance between performance and price. After hot rolling, the material undergoes precision cold rolling followed by annealing and pickling, resulting in tight thickness tolerances, excellent flatness, and a clean, uniform surface ready for stamping, bending, or further fabrication. This cold-rolled process gives the sheet superior dimensional accuracy and a smooth finish compared to hot-rolled alternatives.

As a straight-chromium alloy, it forms a stable passive oxide layer that protects against atmospheric corrosion while offering outstanding thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion — properties that make it outperform austenitic grades like 304 in many heat-management situations. The absence of nickel keeps pricing stable and makes the material fully recyclable, which is why Grade 430 cold rolled stainless steel sheet remains a top choice for high-volume manufacturers in appliances, automotive, architecture, and industrial equipment.

Chemical Composition

Our Grade 430 sheets strictly conform to the chemical limits of all listed standards:

Element

Content (wt%)

Carbon (C)

≤0.12

Chromium (Cr)

16.00–18.00

Manganese (Mn)

≤1.00

Silicon (Si)

≤1.00

Phosphorus (P)

≤0.040

Sulfur (S)

≤0.030

Nickel (Ni)

≤0.75

This balanced chemistry ensures reliable corrosion resistance, good weldability, and oxidation resistance up to 815 °C.

Mechanical Properties

Typical mechanical properties in the annealed condition (standard for cold rolled sheets):

Property

Value

Yield Strength (0.2% offset)

≥205 MPa

Tensile Strength

≥450 MPa

Elongation (50 mm gauge)

≥22%

Hardness (Rockwell B)

≤89 HRB

Hardness (Brinell)

≤183 HB

These values provide excellent formability for deep drawing, bending, and stamping while maintaining sufficient strength for structural applications.

Available Specifications and Finishes

Gangsteel offers Grade 430 cold rolled stainless steel sheet in the following standard range (custom sizes available upon request):

  • Thickness: 0.3 mm – 3.0 mm (up to 6 mm on request)
  • Width: 600 mm – 2000 mm (slit or mill edge)
  • Length: Up to 6000 mm
  • Tolerance: Thickness ±0.03 mm, width ±0.5 mm, flatness ≤8 mm/m

Common finishes include 2B (industrial matte), BA (bright annealed mirror), NO.4 (satin), and HL (hairline). All sheets are protected with PVC/PE film to prevent scratching during transit.

Manufacturing Process at Gangsteel

Our production starts with high-purity AOD-refined material to achieve exact chemistry. Hot rolling is followed by cold rolling on 20-high Sendzimir or 4-high mills for superior thickness uniformity (±0.03 mm). Annealing under controlled atmosphere restores ductility, followed by pickling, skin-passing, and final inspection using eddy-current and AI visual systems. Every batch undergoes third-party testing (SGS, TUV, BV) for full traceability.

For customers requiring the same high-quality material in coil form or other finishes, we recommend our a240 Type_430 stainless steel sheet, EN10088 2 X6Cr17 stainless steel sheet, DIN 1.4016 stainless steel sheet, GB/T 10Cr17 1Cr17 stainless steel sheet, or JIS G4305 SUS 430 stainless steel sheet.

Key Advantages of Gangsteel Grade 430 Sheet

  • Cost efficiency — nickel-free composition reduces price by 30–50% versus SUS304
  • Superior thermal properties — higher conductivity and lower expansion than austenitics
  • Excellent formability — high ductility for complex deep drawing
  • Magnetic — easy automated handling and separation
  • Consistent quality — ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 certified processes
  • Full customization — any standard, finish, or size on request

Wide Range of Applications

Grade 430 cold rolled stainless steel sheet is widely used in:

  • Household appliances (refrigerator doors, washing machine panels, range hoods)
  • Automotive trim and exhaust components
  • Architectural cladding and elevator interiors
  • Kitchen equipment and food processing surfaces
  • Heat exchangers, radiant tubes, and industrial conveyors
