S460M is the high-strength grade in the en 10025 4 High Strength Structural Steel family, offering 460 MPa minimum yield strength and ≥40 J impact toughness at –20 °C. It is the direct TMCP alternative to normalized S460N (EN 10025-3) and the sister grade to the low-temperature bestseller S460ML (–50 °C).
We also stock the complete EN 10025-4 series, including the popular low-temperature grade en 10025 4 s460ml steel plate and the widely used en 10025 4 s355ml steel plate, as well as the standard-temperature en 10025 4 s355m steel plate.
S460M equivalent JIS grade refers to JIS G 3106 SM570, which closely matches S460M under EN 10025-4:2004 (2019)—a thermomechanically rolled (TMCP) weldable fine-grain structural steel with 460 MPa minimum yield strength and ≥40 J Charpy V-notch at –20 °C longitudinally. The designation "S460M" means "S" structural, "460" nominal yield (MPa, ≤16 mm transverse), "M" TMCP delivery (900-1100 °C rolling + 20-40 °C/s cooling).
TMCP's fine grains (ASTM 8-10) and low CEV ≤0.48 provide superior weldability (no preheat to 80 mm) and isotropy versus normalized or QT alternatives. JIS SM570 equivalents S460M with Rm 570-720 MPa and similar CEV, but no mandatory low-temp impact (optional testing). Common for Japanese-EU projects, where Gangsteel supplies dual EN/JIS certified plates.
