What is S460ML Plate EN 10025-4 High Strength Structural Steel?

EN 10025-4 S460ML is a thermomechanically rolled (TMCP) weldable fine-grain high strength structural steel with:

• Minimum yield strength 460 MPa
• Excellent low-temperature toughness ≥ 27 J at –50 °C (longitudinal)
• Very low CEV ≤ 0.48 → outstanding weldability (no preheat up to 80 mm)
• Fine grain structure (ASTM 8–11)

The designation “S460ML” means:

• S= structural steel
• 460= minimum yield strength 460 MPa (transverse, thickness ≤ 16 mm)
• M= thermomechanical rolling (TMCP delivery condition)
• L= low-temperature impact toughness (–50 °C test)

S460ML is the highest-strength low-temperature grade in the EN 10025-4 family that still offers excellent weldability and formability. It is the material of choice when maximum strength-to-weight ratio and –50 °C performance are required.
