Steel S460ML is a thermomechanically rolled (TMCP) weldable fine-grain structural steel specified in EN 10025-4:2004 (current version 2019).
The designation “S460ML” means:
S460ML is the highest-strength low-temperature grade in the EN 10025-4 family that still offers excellent weldability and formability. It is the material of choice when maximum strength-to-weight ratio and –50 °C performance are required.

S460ML is widely used when maximum strength and low-temperature toughness are required:
Q1: S460ML vs S460M difference?A: Only impact test temperature. S460ML = –50 °C (≥27 J), S460M = –20 °C (≥40 J). Strength, chemistry, weldability identical.
Q2: Preheating required?A: No preheat up to 80 mm thickness. >80 mm: 75–100 °C max.
Q3: Z35 availability?A: Yes – very large stock of S460ML + Z35 ready for immediate delivery.
Q4: Density and hardness?A: Density 7.85 g/cm³, hardness 160–210 HBW.
